VentureBeat: App Store downloads pass one-billion mark

    I don't think Apple was ever reluctant to "open" (we'll use the term loosely) the iPhone. They were just publicly making the best of what they had with OS 1. You can bet they were already working on OS 2 APIs and the SDK long before v1 hit general release.

    I still remember the eye popping comment by Steve Jobs about his reason for not letting 3rd party developers create apps for the iPhone as they do not want a rogue app taking down the west coast phone network. How things have changed.
