VentureBeat: Are you powered by Wikipedia yet?

  • Robert Cook (Metaweb co-founde · 2 years ago
We are indeed indebted to Wikipedia (although we are very different). Our hope is to give back whatever we can.

Also: we are already implementing one of your suggestions.

Freebase is very cool, but there is no need to wait with your Wikipedia-powered applications until they are done.

You can already use dbpedia today. dbpedia is a public RDF database that allows you to query against 25 million RDF triples which have been extracted from Wikipedia. The dbpedia dataset contains abstracts in 9 languages, infobox data and categorization information.

    See http://dbpedia.org/docs/ for details.

I am looking for for Freebase and dbpedia looks pretty cool. These projects will definitely make it easier to use Wikipedia as a development resource.

We use Wikipedia at RealityMarkets.com for filling in the basics behind our stocks and indexes. We have also started to see stock suggestions come in from our users that have used Wikipedia for researching the stocks they are suggesting. It's a great resource.

About the idea of Wikipedia book, I think this is a good option. However, for people living in countries where the internet access is poor, a cheap PC/laptop scheme may be a cheaper solution, as printed books could be expensive to manufacture and deliver. The cheap PC/laptop may have content of wikipedia installed in HD or CD. Though not updated, but this is good enough as starting point for people of those country.

    Of course, books have advantages:
    1. Multiple volumns, shared by many readers at the same time.
    2. No need for electronic power at day time.

They pay even 3 Euro per click. One thing you have to do is to have own website and
place there peakclick's search engine (by for example). If you have much visitors
you will earn much money. Best webmasters have 2000-5000 $ per day. To see best webmasers
