I get the impression from the article that MMS a new thing in the US. Is this correct?

MMS became available in Europe in 2001 or so.

Not sure, I just say "yes" to every question iTunes asks me. It usually works out.

(FWIW, I haven't had too many problems with 3.1 ...)

Is there anyway to do the carrier update without having to jump to 3.1? I am on 3.0 and dont want all the issues I am reading about!
