VentureBeat: Bill Joy joins Kleiner Perkins

  • Lynne Jolitz · 4 years ago
So, Bill "designed and wrote Berkeley UNIX - the first open source operating system with built-in TCP/IP, making it the backbone of the Internet" according to Kleiner...

Well, if Berkeley Unix was open source way back in 1982 when I was an undergrad, why was it licensed by AT&T? And why did anyone care about Linux and 386BSD if it already was open source?

Bill has done such great work in Berkeley Unix, especially in sockets - he's renowned rightly. A pity that Kleiner doesn't feel that's enough for them.
