VentureBeat: British utilities lobby against consumer energy monitors — will the same happen in the U.S.?

UK Utilities always put short term profits ahead of long term and environmental goals. Which? estimates that it will cost households more than £300 over the next 20 years to pay for the rolling out of smart metres as it will be added onto bills. However it will only cost £77 over the same period if energy companies contribute more from the savings they make by not having to do meter readings.

Overly sensational headline there. The British companies are NOT trying to make them illegal so nobody can have them, they are fighting legislation that forces them to install them.

I strongly recommend fixing that headline, This isn't fox news you know.
