VentureBeat: Cleantech startups of note: D. Light Design, ReadySolar, Redwood Renewables

I saw these presentations and felt they are solving problems that need to be solved, and hope their business models work. In the d.light design case, they mentioned the 2 billion people who are in the dark at night, and multitudes that rely on kerosene for light. The $10 price tag sounds nice to me, but with most of those families raking in a whopping $1 to $2 per day, the $10 price tag might be difficult for many. There is also the questions of recharging infrastructure and how they will charge for the recharge. Wireless power (solar) is one option. Other alternatives include human-powered solutions like Potenco's yo-yo that enables one to get 25 minutes of talk time on their mobile phone for 1 minute of exercise:

There are great opportunities to improve living conditions for billions of people and glad to see some innovation like this happening. Other than the kerosene and kerosene accessories salespeople, I think the whole planet could stand to benefit from solutions like these.
