    Justin, I totally agree that a large scale due diligence would benefit from your recommendations. Let's not forget the not so big companies that are trying to get their credit line boosted, positioning for mergers, reputation, sales etc...I have seen companies who "loan money" to other companies to assist in building a credit line to later find that the companies are intertwined with one another and/or positioning to go out of business leaving their creditors with potentially huge loses and their "new" company continues the same shell game. Due diligence investigations are critical and hiring experienced people is the only way to go. As you mentioned, auditors can miss things, but combining disciplines who communicate will certainly fair a broader and complete outcome. Great food for thought article to share with clients!
