VentureBeat: Facebook begins testing ad-driven polls

  • Desqjockey · 10 months ago
Good strategy: reminds me of those ads touting a poll on a really devisive issue where the unpopular opinion was already filled in (Is GWB the best president ever?) and they counted on you clicking on the ad to "change" the response.
Engagement cuts the filtering impulse whereby you dont even see the ad.

Facebook is nothing more than AOL circa 1996 minus the ISP. Ad sponsored polls? Give me a break, this is news?

Kinda of a shame the ads aren't more targeted for the football poll. i.e. football merchandise , HDTV's or betting sites ;)

I think this kind of ads works with me for the time being. But broadcasting it with irrelevant context will be in bad taste.

I for one, am fed up with the barrage of "targeted" advertising I get on FB. I refer to the incessant appearance of Botox and wrinkle cream and weight loss ads. I have zero interest in any of them and am merely being pigeonholed by my gender and birthdate. Please.
