VentureBeat: Facebook: Twitter is in the “rear-view mirror”

  • David Spinks · 2 months ago
If twitter is in facebook's rear-view mirror, why are they adding features that are exactly like the functionality that twitter offers? Don't copy another site and then say that you aren't paying any attention to them.

    Hi Matt,

There is no doubt that twitter is a powerful tool for both business and *fun*, but actually people are abusing ths fantatic social media, so it becomes a little bit spammy.

I hope they'll find a solution to stop those Blackhat*ers/Spammers/Scammers.

    Regards

Facebook says they don't see Twitter as a threat? yeah, right! Their actions prove otherwise.
Facebook has copied Twitter in allowing people to mention or tag others in their status(very similar to Twitter's @ replies). Facebook has copied Twitter(or is about to from what I've been reading)by allowing members to have real-time updates.
I don't try to be like someone else if I'm not threatened by them. And there are other things Facebook's copying Twitter in.
So if Facebook doesn't see Twitter as a threat why is Facebook trying so hard to be like Twitter?

Facebook imitates popular features from many rival services, there objectives are obvious but dismissing Twitter as a threat is ignorance. Twitter may have significantly less users but with the hyped Internet of things, a network of objects, such as household appliances. Everything will have identity and they will be communicating with each other...

Twitter reminds of of wordperfect competing against MS word. Facebook will take all the same features as a (very small) subset of their service, and leverage their larger and more active user base to drive Twitter into the ground. Sad to say but too little and (waaaay) too late for Twitter. I'm still rooting for them though.

I think it's silly when execs make comments like this. Facebook should keep doing what it's doing. I didn't see them as copying Twitter with their updates function. To me it's a natural way for them to integrate not only with Twitter but also with a host of other services.

The important conversation is not who's competing with who, but how the hundreds of services can be aggregated to provide a better experience for the user.
