This fund will need a continual bubble to be successful.

Re: Founders Fund raises new fund, aims for more VC disruption

The idea that "Early Silicon Valley venture capitalists were entrepreneurs who made their money and wanted to invest in the next generation" is a fiction. The founders of many of the great early venture firms - IVP, TVI, Sutter Hill, Mayfield, Venrock, Greylock - were not entrepreneurs with experience starting tech companies. As for the idea that investment bankers are arrivistes in the world of venture capitalists, Arthur Rock was an investment banker.

Furthermore, there are many successful VCs today who were not entrepreneurs - Bob Kagle, Geoff Yang, Dave Marquardt, Steve Jurvetson, Brook Byers, Mike Moritz, etc... - while the list of good entrepreneurs who proved to be mediocre investors would probably be quite long.

There's no one formula for success.
