I couldn't have stumbled upon this post at a better time -- I'm currently working on a "contributor process" for the blog I manage. I'll not only be referring to this post but linking to it, as well.

Re: Inside peek: How the New York Times uses blogs

Great piece, really interesting. I'd recommend that you upgrade soon for security reasons.

Re: Inside peek: How the New York Times uses blogs

As an associate editor of a Gear focused blog running off Wordpress, I'm glad to see that such a large institution like the New York times operates in a similar fashion to our current work flow. Of course, we can't begin to match the expertise of editor's there, nor do we have the benefit of an independant marketing team helping to promote our content. Still though, it's nice to see and I really appreciate the insight. Isn't open source amazing?

Re: Inside peek: How the New York Times uses blogs

When I interviewed the editor of the NYTimes website at Bloggercon in 2003 he pointed to Nick Kristof's online journal as the Times' first blog. This was obviously well before Wordpress. I think Nick used the Webcrossing platform that the Times had in place for its forums, and turned it into a sort of journal. Anyway, at the time that was what Times reps themselves considered the paper's first blog. It functioned a lot like a blog, although it didn't use what we think of as a "real" blogging program.

Re: Inside peek: How the New York Times uses blogs

I actually have g-wise and a few (well, pogue) other NYT rss feeds in the reader and WSJ and Economist ones, too (and i get dead tree versions too). great mix, and you can see the different voice from same columnists, which is rewarding for both reader and journo, i would suppose.

Find that you enjoy the mix of rigor and speed or two forums (print and blog)?
