    One thing that amazes me is that VCs keep on investing in companies such as meebo that hack into the services of the big IM vendors. This "unsanctioned access" could easily be disabled by the networks, and voila - no more meebo. Seems a risky bet to me nespa?

    You missed Userplane (www.userplane.com) which is now owned by AOL. They power the instant messaging behind a ton of web sites, including PlentyofFish, Spark Networks, Dogster/Catster, Friendster, and a lot of other sites.

    It's like LivePerson, Trillian and Webtrends all in one!
