VentureBeat: iTunes turned the music market on its head. Could iTunes TV do the same for TV?

TV is not going anywhere. If there is anyone who can pull this off, its gonna be Apple.

Does it really matter if you're paying Comcast or Apple? People want free programming, supported by advertising. Now, thanks to the Internet, we are not limited to 100 or even 1000 channels. There will eventually be an unlimited number of channels in niches as diverse as Shoe.tv. Whatever your interest, there will be a channel. And how better to support such programming but through advertising to a very narrow, focused group of consumers? PCTVCables.com

I can assure you it will be US-only at first. That’s not surprising. The networks will spread out from there, just like the iTunes store did.

I love how cable companies have been luring customers in with crippled bandwidth from day one, promising better speeds and unlimited use, and then capped it when people bit and went for the plan. It’s ridiculous. The biggest flaw in our system is that in Japan they’re getting 50mbps optical speeds for the equivalent of $50 a month because neighborhoods aren’t monopolized by one company or another.

All TV in my house comes from the internet. I had Direct tv until last spring. I looked at the bill and thought wow I pay a lot of money for the 6 channels I like to watch. Not to mention most of those channels just repeat the shows a couple three times a day. Then if your an insomniac like me you get to pay for the privilege of watching info commercials all night.

Now I watch most of my shows on Hulu. There can be a delay between when the show airs and when it is uploaded. But since I don't watch broadcast this is a non issue for me. You can also watch TV at most of the networks. NBC and CBS are pretty good. My quality is very good, but I pay for higher bandwidth. I paid for Higher bandwidth before. I also use Itunes. I have a number of TV shows and movies. If I can't find it for free I can usually buy it.

Itunes was the original reason I canceled my TV service. I figured I could buy anything I wanted to watch for less than the cable bill with the added benefit of no commercials. The hardest part of internet tv is the interaction. You have to think what do I want to see? Its not like cable were you watch what they want to show you.

I'm looking forward to ITunes competing for our business. Cheaper prices for similar services gets my attention.
