They might have a good business approach thinking that free service might encourage people to sign up for paid services. It's always attractive when people can try stuff for free and then get hooked enough to pay for it.

This is potentially revolutionary and will do more than to just shake up long distance calling card companies. I would love to see what the next step is for jaxtr. They seem to definitely have changed their tune in the last few months, and it seems like its a turn for the best. I use the service to call family in Germany on a somewhat regular basis. I must say, they have even made a drastic facelift. The new redesign makes the site look more credible and must say it was a brilliant move. Perception of the product I'm sure will change. Kudos to the new design, I am glad they came to their senses and got someone creativity in their blood! I look forward to seeing more changes, especially in the interface!!!!

well, i am a little confused. When the callee dials the number the he/she gets via sms, will the callee be charged anything? If yes, then kindly elaborate. Thanks

hmm.. think this is a flawed business case. why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free.. no longevity.. no revenue model. they will burn thru lehman venture partners $10m and flop... sorry.. but look at similar businesses in this market. no ingenuity or stickiness.. no prospect of a revenue model .

Skype to Skype calling which is P2P and on net is free and works well because it doesn't cost them on a per minute basis.

Jaxtr to Jaxtr calling which is PSTN to net to PSTN again is not free, and won't work well because it does cost them on a per minute basis.
