VentureBeat: LinkedIn launches platform — a better business social network

  • Dan Rogers · 2 years ago
Good move by LinkedIn. One feature that you have missed here is Instant message. Now you can send an instant message (not mail) to people in your network like scraps in orkut.

As i said previously when rumors of News corp in the blogosphere that Linkeden can add more value to increase its price if they are looking for exit strategy. And these steps mentioned here are in right direction. Linkedin can do more stuff rather than just being a professional site, now it moving in a right direction where it becomes a platform.

Great to see that they continue to add tools and features to the system.

do i really want my profile to pop-up to friends-of-friends-of-friends in an event calendar or a keyword in an article? does seem impressively connected, but will it simply result in more 'can you help me?' spam?

Excellent move by LinkedIn. They are the leading business social network and the platform is what matters: http://fishtrain.com/2007/10/17/the-platform-is...

I am a LinkedIN member and am curious to play with the Business Week feature, however I cannot find it anywhere. Has this been released? If so, how can I locate it?

I love Linkedin. I use it every day. Currently, I'm creating some new groups and finding new ones to join. I've met a lot of great business contacts and as my network grows I'm finding more useful. I'm an open networker and happen to own a staffing company but my network and community on LI has extended far beyond my current staffing business. I also do some real estate investing and my LI network helped me locate a good real estate broker in the area I was looking. It also helped me find a reputable SEO company. I'm sure there are a ton of everyday uses that one could reach out to their network and get some help.

    Yes I'm an open networker

Here are is a flash course I have developed that shows how to use LinkedIn to generate revenues.

It assumes you already know how to create a profile - but want to acccess your network.

I have had several LinkedIn people review it, but I am looking for a few important bloggers as well. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Instead of using networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn for networking, I think it would be better for large corporations to make their own networks.
Social platforms should be used for businesses as the effects and outcomes on sales can be fantastic. Social platforms encourage communication, networking, sharing ideas and productivity and this all leads to an positive effect on sales and satisfaction amongst staff and customers. http://www.brandstation.tv/

It seems as though the future of business applications will indeed be the more bottom-up structure you mention. Users are flocking to sites such as www.octopuscity.com that offer a business network tied in with free business services like CRM, contact management and teleconferencing, and companies are adapting to their presence rather than vice-versa.

I do have a Profile on LinkedIn but also find that my Profile on Sta.rtUp.biz is very beneficial to my business. It's a great business network community with loads of help and advice. I've also made some very good friends and contacts there.

    Regards,
    Steve
