Actually, I wasn't making fun of your algorithm. To the contrary, I was citing your algorithm to portray how bubbly things have gotten for certain companies. But yes, I'm curious how you'd revise your rule of thumb for these days of outsourcing, and leverage-powerful Internet companies where just a couple of engineers and a good idea can go a long, long way. We need Kawasaki's advice for 2005, not 2004!

I do not believe you can outsource version 1 of a product. The maximum distance between the programmers and marketers is 35 feet. Bangalore is a little too far.
As for my algorithm, sure there will be examples on both ends of the spectrum, but "for the rest of us," a startup's valuation is still $500,000/ engineer.

I think the missconception is you cannot outsource V.1 because most of the proprietors of the V.1's nowadays are developers, and often not the business-people. If you're on the other side (business end) outsourcing can often be the way to go, if you know how and are patient enough to manage a group over AIM. I know of a handful successful startups, even ones that are well-funded, that are solely outsourced. On that same note, people undervalue russia as a premiere outsourcing joint. My experiences have been far better than with indian teams.

Hi Kenny, It's hard to give a solution without knowing your school. However, try logging into www2.meebo.com, www3.meebo.com, www4.meebo.com (all the way to www28.meebo.com). If this doesn't work you can try accessing the site directly by IP such as 69.36.226.133 or 69.36.226.134. Good luck! -Elaine

Kool IM is a very tough competitor for Meebo; infact it is going to outdo Meebo very shortly. It provides 6 IM clients and has very good features as well.
