Just curious if Khosla Ventures II (KVII)is Vinod's own money, then where does the carry come from. One way is that Vinod is the sole limited partner in KV II and theryby a mangament fee and a carry. The only reason for this to exist is as an incentive to attract partners i.e. partners get a portion of the carry vs. just a paycheck. The thing I can understand is Does vinod need to provide incentive to attract partners? I mean wouldn't people be glad join his group for a paycheck.

    Any opinions

It may all be "his money" but he probably has several entities such as trusts etc. that he controls. So in effect he has institutional investors but he's the institution. No reason not to use the standard set up, particularly since it does allow him to attract people, and who *doesn't* want carry on top of what is I'm sure a healthy paycheck?

On the Vinod question, I'd agree with Jon. Incentive for partners.
