Nate, there's clearly something going on, but perhaps it is another one of those cases where there have been solid talks, and even an agreement to invest/buy, but the paperwork hasn't been done yet. Maybe not even that. Guess we'll find out when a deal actually goes through.

A minor correction but that article on Larry Sonsini is from Fortune, not Forbes.

    Thanks, Pete, fixed.

Brad Garlinghouse may have just been a way of saving face with investors immediately after the New York Time critique and BEFORE the announcement, the next day, of the partnership with 176 newspapers.
( including: MediaNews Group, Hearst, Belo, E. W. Scripps, Journal Register Company, Lee Enterprises & Cox Enterprises. They owns newspapers in 38 states, - major metro dailies - including: San Francisco Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, Atlanta Journal-Constitution & Denver Post, - combined daily circulation of 12 mill. )

(Google, on the other hand, partnered with 50 metropolitan newspapers, including: New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Seattle Times, Philadelphia Inquirer & Chicago Tribune, and papers in the Gannett Co. Inc)

So, one could assume that the Brads email was not REALLY leaked to WSJ,....... and that the NYTimes article the day before, may have been a result of saving face, or just a competive strategy to harm the impact of that Yahoo announcement they anticipated ;-)
