VentureBeat: Real Girls Media raises $6M for women & Web 2.0 — but feels bubbly

It bugs me when people are skeptical about the online advertising boom just because of the dot.com crash. There's actually macro-trends and hard data at work here about the percentage of total advertising budgets online vs. percentage of time spent online but no-one seems bothered to look that up or actually do some real analysis.

"Remember, 1999 was real too" - what exactly does that mean? That there's a chance we'll have another crash? How many companies have IPO'd since then? There have been under 5 over $1BB acquisitions since then. Sure there's a lot of funding, but when all the features posing as companies crash who will get burnt cash wise besides newbie Internet VCs (hi MDV) and their investors?

Sorry for the rant, its not directed at you but I read a lot of this kind of skepticism, and just wish it were grounded in real facts, data and analysis. Given the rapid posting style I starting to figure out that that's not what blogs are about...

True, the 1999 line is a bit lazy.

By the way, why use "anonymous"? I'm sure your comment is legit, but always makes one wonder whether it is someone from the company commenting. Nothing wrong with having an open debate about this.
