One small piece of advice to readers and writers of valuation numbers, whether pre- or post-money: even the large, professional databases are not trusted by much of the venture capital community. Why? First, many of the top tier venture capital firms don't provide those confidential numbers at all, due to clauses in the stock purchase agreements, and second, the venture capital firms that do provide them frequently use differing definitions for those numbers. Even though the big databases do their best to understand the numbers, financing valuations are some of the most questionable numbers in those databases.
