    The Defense industry is a large sector to begin with and often encompasses early stage technologies that the military is seeking for near-term uses but have a clear commercial potential. For example Defense investments, if categorized through DoD grants could include renewable energy source for soldiers or transportation breakthroughs that are categorized as a defense investment now but more than likely will be applied to industries outside of what people consider defense.
