Maxthon is not an Israeli company, however it is currently managed in part by an Israeli team. It was developed by a Chinese graduate student by the name of Changyou and was initially released under the name MyIE2. Maxthon has 80 million downloads (in total) because it has been around for close to 8 years and has had a gazillion versions and two name changes. Before the era of FireFox, Maxthon was a sensible tab enabled browser alternative to IE. One should note that Maxthon is not a browser per-se but merely a well integrated skin of sorts that uses the IE or Gecko engines. It adds both form and function. Maxthon has been steadily loosing western users ever since Firefox became the de-facto alternative. Google has a similar agreement with the Mozila Foundation the makers of FireFox.
