Ryan · 2 years agoInteresting that no one mentions that StumbleUpon is a clone of eTour, a Web 1.0 company that looked and did the exact same thing. Purchased by Ask in 2001 but then shut down.

Skeptic · 2 years agoOffering shares of nonpublic stock to the public in an open manner? I seem to recall that the Securities Act of 1933 frowns upon such tactics. You can only give out limited amounts of stock in private offerings to qualified parties able to accept risk. Stock is not coupons. The financial collapse of 1929 was brought about in part by public stock speculation in private companies. In addition, reporting requirements by Sarbanes-Oxley may make his marketing gimmick quite unprofitable. And it is a gimmick - one that Weird Al Yankovic did much better in the cult movie classic UHF.
