VentureBeat: San Francisco to be “Twitterfied”

  • Giannii · 9 months ago
I wonder how they would use it..

I find that the most useful SF twitter accounts to be @sfbart and @emergency_in_sf .

Yeah, sounds like there weren't too many details, though Mike has some below.

It's great how Twitter is growing up and how it has many uses ...

I caught most of the livestream this morning. They talked quite a bit about how Twitter might be useful for local government but there were nothing was really committed to. Newsom said that he's been receiving tweets from people about pot holes and actually taking action on those requests (he made a disclaimer that he wouldn't be able to respond to every pothole complaint). He also talked about how Twitter could evolve into something like the 311 service and text message services that are currently in place. They also talked about how it could be a useful tool to do public opinion polls and use it as an emergency broadcast system. There was a funny moment where Newsom said that his staff freaked out when he told them that he had opened a Twitter account last month. they said "Don't touch that thing" but later agreed to him using it.

Great stuff Mike. Hilarious about the pot holes. Also good to know that is really is him using it.

I was going to suggest that he meant that San Francisco would see a traffic increase of 752% but no sustainable revenue model. But that would be catty. :-)

clearly, Herb Caen would be proud of our babylon by the bay, complete with philandering mayor running for gov in 140 characters or less
