Algae is renewable, does not affect the food channel and consumes CO2. To learn about the fast-track commercialization of the algae industry, you may want to check out the National Algae Association. It is the first algae trade association in the US.

I don't believe in the existence of an alga culture that will thrive in a fuel tank. Algae can't survive in such an environment. If they could, it's inconceivable they could produce enough energy density to drive a car, even a hybrid.

I suppose it's conceivable that industrial algae tanks can help produce a gasoline-replacement fuel, but there would be no living culture in the tank in that case, and the car itself would have no innovative features -- you could just use the fuel in an ordinary Prius.

But in the event this fuel is even real at all, it's almost certainly much more expensive fuel than gasoline, ethyl alcohol, propane, LNG, and other gas replacements, so unless its price point is almost magically low, it will not be used for any serious purpose.

Green crude is a processed form of algae. The oils are extracted and processed to make a fuel grade product. I've heard it burns better than conventional jet fuels hence the interest from the airline industry.
