VentureBeat: Search Wikia returns for more punishment with new features

These types of curated search engines are interesting but if they simply mimic Google SERPs, they'll have a difficult time gaining marketshare. Google is a fantastic tool but in the verticals at the top of the Pareto Distribution, as measured in revenues generated for Google (different than total search requests), google doesn't offer a great user experience. My favorite example is the vertical search engine, kayak, which feels like a travel site and not a search site. Tackling other verticals in a similar fashion is the way forward for building search marketshare. Ironically, to my mind, this was one of the great reasons behind the success of wikipedia. Wikipedia serves as a search engine with SERPs that feel like articles.
