VentureBeat: Startup2Startup: Dinners for new entrepreneurs, like what they did back in the old days

thanks for the startup pimp love, eric ;)

re: "the kind of weight McClure can pull", it's true that i'm about 25 pounds heavier than my lean years back in the late 90's, but that's about it.

at best i'm one of the lower-level henchmen in the PayPal Mafia, and count myself fortunate that i got to know Chad & other now-famous folks when i was back at PayPal. still i doubt we would have gotten Startup2Startup on Chad's radar without other friends like Roelof helping out, nor without some great entrepreneurs attending to get both their attention.

kudos to both of them for spending time with rookies & giving back :)

(ps - lots of credit to the folks who started Round Zero for the model, and to Guy Kawasaki for the education efforts at the old Garage.com entrepreneur conferences, as well as Paul Graham for doing some amazing stuff with Y-Combinator. we borrowed much from all of them!)

I'm curious if anyone has tried something like this in New York or Boston. I attended some of the New York Tech Meetups, but I bailed when the attendance broke 300 and I couldn't handle the signal-to-noise ratio. Selectivity, whether through an application process or charging enough to ensure that the attendees are serious (though without breaking the bank), seems to be a key success factor.

Great idea to pull this off.
