OpenSolaris is rad, but it should be noted that DTrace is available (somewhat) on FreeBSD and (moreso) on OS X Leopard, and ZFS is in FreeBSD (and apparently soon in Leopard).

I saw AWS at the Web 2.0 Expo and they have a lot of potential. We're possibly thinking of hopping over to them as well, especially with their reliability and now the platform.

This open social platform also is critical for a lot of start-up companies who don't have the funds to create their own. I am going to look into this.

    Thanks for the valuable post.

The Amazon move would have helped Sun/MySQL more about 6 months ago.

Amazon announced persistent storage a couple weeks ago which takes a TON of the headaches out of EC2 image crashing problem. It is still in beta.

Informative article Matt. On the topic of startups, do you know of any good job board sites, besides gobignetwork.com, that offers internet business savvy students to learn about internship offerings from startups?
