I haven't seen anything wrong with vista... actually i had more problems with XP than with vista. Of course i actually know how to use a PC and don't download viruses aka music on my computer.

As I recall, Microsoft was not "the lead of personal computer technology." Bill gates was an SI like 1000s of others at that time he lucked out in many way that I won't go into because this is a comment not a novel(I'm sure its all on wikipedia anyways). IBM chose Gates (not as their first pick either) to provide the OS for their new IBM PC. MS then bought DOS. MS has had a major role in the development of the PC, so I'm not going to claim otherwise, but lets not go overboard. :-)

MS rarely makes TV Commercials? Surely you kid. They aren't making an ad? Then why did they hire a renowned ad agency? Defending their view? This is business, not politics. Call it what it is, its an ad. the Apple "things" on TV are ads too, not Steve Jobbs personal view on technology. They are designed to sell more products.

You are right, bashing products alone isn't creative, but you can do non creative things in very creative and entertaining ways. Right. I didn't hear Microsoft in the last Apple ad either, so I guess it has nothing to do with MS...

If someone insults me, I'd be responding to a personal attack. An ad campaign is anything but a personal attack, so don't compare the two. Finally, the best way to respond to an attack is unbridled success. Develop a killer product, then laugh at the competition's ads (Thats what Apple is certainly doing right now).

For instance, remember that quote from Michael Dell a few years back referring to what he would do if he was Apple's CEO "What would I do? I'd shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders?" Guess what Apple didn't do, reply in kind with some silly comment. They went on to develop wildly successful products and build a company worth 3 to 4 times that of Dell. Then again, I guess they could have just made an ad...

A total MS thing to do? IIRC, MS rarely made T.V commercials. They are not making an "ad", they are just defending their view. They don't need better ads, because they don't make many of them.

Also, bashing another product isn't creative. The Apple ads only got attention because they HAD to include Windows. In this PC ad, I didn't hear one "Mac" or "Apple".

Besides if someone insults you, you would try to counter it, not just sit there looking like an idiot.

Have used both products and like them both. But due to pricing more people use pc versus mac. Maybe this is why it may appear on the surface that mac has less problems than pc. Less people own a mac!!! And give Gates a break, after all he is the one that created the micro chip and then the net was born. I fell the ads are great!

This ad, to me, justifies the Mac ads. This is totally an MS thing to do. Trying too hard to prove itself against Apple. Why not just make better products, rather than responding to Apple products. Why not make better ads, rather than simply responding to Mac ads.

The Apple ads aren't attempting to link the PC guy to PC users. It links the PC guy to Windows. Getting defensive simply validates the Mac ads. If I was MS I would simply think of my own creative way to advertise, rather than acknowledging my competitors ad by trying to counter it. But this is the way of MS. Just look at Vista and the new Office interface. Windows 7 is forcing multitouch into places it doesnt belong.

I dont think Microsoft is attacking ... I think they're just defending. The PC Guy on the mac ad has been directly linked with Microsoft so its only appropriate for MS to come back and say "that's a stereotype because all different type of users have pcs and love them" --- I think its clever because MS isn't attacking Mac in anyway ... its classier in my opinion. I always found the Apple ads cheap. Oh well.

The only time it's appropriate to attack, is when you attack up. When Apple made their ads, they were attacking up - going after the big guy. In this case, Microsoft is attacking up. I.e. Microsoft and Apple have switched positions where Apple is now the superior, and Microsoft is making an attempt to catch up.

Much better than the Seinfeld/Gates ads, but it's awkward to hear real people (including celebrities) claim, "I'm a PC." The Apple ads work because we accept the characters represent computers.
