VentureBeat: The genomic frontier: Personalized medicine in action
-
David Lester · 12 months agoWe hear these overviews of the powerful technologies associated with genomics and Personalized Medicine and the lofty expectations regarding their impact on the practice of medicine. The reality is that medicine will remain to some degree an art. So, much of it is trial and error and it is managed by payers and providers. Most of the drugs that are highly effective in the management of disease are really not understood in terms of how they actually work. The other reality is that new technologies take extensive periods of time to be adopted and integrated into clinical practice. The more complicated the technology, the more difficult it is to gain acceptance. The most significant reality is that we haven't figured out how to optimize medical technologies that exist on the market. These new technologies will take time before their impact on clinical practice is fully realized.
