There's no question Verizon flubbed when it passed on the iPhone and, ironically, some of what it demanded, Jobs ultimately had to relent to and agree with to cut the deal with AT&T.

More importantly, however, as you suggest is the opening of the Verizon network - albeit belatedly, thanks to Google. Google is the behemoth that now dictates the terms of the digital communications world. It will be interesting when the day comes that its apple cart is overturned. So far, however, they seem to be able to stay one step ahead of any competition.
