VentureBeat: The Seasteading Institute encourages floating nations, hosts conference

It's fantastic how humans can turn fiction into reality, nothing is impossible for us!!!

And who's in charge of these floating nations? The highest bidder as king, or is it some kind of utopian collective? First palm tree and country-shaped islands, now this!

That is indeed the question. The idea, I believe, is that any seastead can try out any social arrangement it wants. It follows that those that fail to make a workable environment for their citizens will lose their populations to others that do.

that concept (Universal Studios) image is impractical and not very versatile. Your article states "Highly rugged, modular constructions that make it easy to attach your home to your micro-nation of choice but just as easy to detach it and move away." which suggests floating cities made up of many separate ships/barges of varying sizes that can easily connect/disconnect. So, why would you use such an out dated, hollywood, cutting room floor, inaccurate visual along side your article. Laziness comes to mind, or perhaps a subtle way to mock the concept.

I believe the image credit is for the Waterworld poster, not the concept design. And I haven't been following seasteading a whole lot, but I vaguely remember the researchers claiming this type of design as fairly stable (even though it doesn't look like it at first glance).
