The feature doesn't bring too many new things. The friend activity was already available as a homepage module and you could broadcast to your friends the latest comments, favorite videos etc.

Why does YouTube need stickiness? they are by far the #1 video site on the net. What YT needs is a way to make money out of it. It's a very cool feature and I like it, but I can't see what's really in it for them.

It's kind of weird two step process. I invite you as a friend, then I invite you into the beta. Not sure why they did it that way, but regardless...you're all set! Just be sure to turn on the toolbar once it pops up.
