More and more free services are failing: Technorati, Feedburner, blog aggregators (see your blog pings).
Is the end of the free web services nearing?

The Internet hardly fails when Google fails. This mischaracterizes the issue -- it's not about the Web being utterly reliant on Google, but about its fantastic branding, its place at the top of most consumers' minds.

Add to that the number of online novices -- even now -- who actually don't know about other search engines, and the dip is perfectly understandable.

There are plenty of alternatives in the market. This only underscores the importance of people knowing that other fine options exist. Just search for "search engine." Only do it on Yahoo!, Ask, MSN, Cuil or Powerset in case Google is down.
