This mischaracterizes the issue -- it's not about the Web being utterly reliant on Google, but about its fantastic branding, its place at the top of most consumers' minds.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Add to that the number of online novices -- even now -- who actually don't know about other search engines, and the dip is perfectly understandable.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There are plenty of alternatives in the market.  This only underscores the importance of people knowing that other fine options exist.  Just search for "search engine."
