The meetup is for startups, but not exclusively for YC alumni. It wasn't started in response to the news, though the goal is to allow startups to get together to talk shop in a friendly environment.  &lt;a href="http://bit.ly/startup_poker" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank" title="http://bit.ly/startup_poker"&gt;http://bit.ly/startup_poker&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Tipjoy was in the Winter 08 class in Mountain View. We moved from Boston to the Bay Area to do it, and moved back to Boston after Betaworks, based in NYC, was the lead in our series A.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;It has been interesting comparing the coasts. Boston has a much, much smaller startup scene.
